On behalf of our outstanding faculty and staff, welcome to LSU in Shreveport! While this catalog serves as a comprehensive source of information about the University for students, faculty, staff and the public, it is a mere snapshot of the full breadth of the LSUS experience. Over the past decade, LSUS has seen unparalleled enrollment growth, undergoing a significant evolution in our programs and how we deliver them. As a result, LSU in Shreveport awards more graduate degrees than any other university in Louisiana and awards the second highest total (undergraduate and graduate) degrees of any institution in Louisiana. We have invested tens of millions of dollars to modernize our campus and have done pioneering work in online learning, developing and providing programs and services that meet and exceed the needs of 21st century students. We remain committed to providing every one of our more than 11,000 students with the tools they need to succeed, whether it’s in-person on our beautiful campus or virtually through our online programs. Last year, our students came from 61 parishes, as well as from all 50 states and more than 80 countries. More than half of our freshman students were awarded scholarships last year, totaling more than $500,000. Altogether, we awarded over $2.2 million in scholarships to LSUS students.
As a reflection of our commitment to student achievement, we created our Student Success Center to support the academic development of both our traditional and online students, offering 24-hour access to tutoring, as well as academic and career counseling services. At LSU in Shreveport, you will find truly unique facilities, such as our Collaboratory, where students can work with cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, 3D printer Fabrication and Robotics. Our Human Performance Lab offers athletic and occupational physical testing services to professional organizations and athletes in our community and serves as a hub for novel research in exercise and occupational physiology and biomechanics. In short, LSUS continues to evolve in the way we design and deliver educational offerings to our students, utilizing modern pedagogy and emerging technologies. In addition to maintaining the high academic standards for which we are known, LSUS students, faculty, staff and alumni continue to make an impact both at home and abroad. Our faculty are engaged in high-profile, internationally recognized research projects, often collaborating with our graduate and even undergraduate students, a rarity for a university of our size. LSUS students presented the results of their research with faculty at state, national, and international conferences in fields such as chemistry, computer science, and history. Two LSUS Debate students captured a team national championship while another laid claim to two individual national titles as LSUS placed fourth in the season-long national standings. Our Bass Fishing Team finished its season ranked tenth in the nation, while our Weightlifting team continues to be a top-10 program nationally, including a pair of weightlifters who set new U.S. records in their weight classes at the U.S. Nationals this summer.
The military organization Viqtory has designated LSUS as a Military Friendly and a Military Spouse Friendly university, signifying that LSUS creates sustainable and meaningful pathways for members of our military community. Indeed, all of our athletics teams continued their winning tradition in the Red River Athletic Conference and on the national stage, while maintaining excellence in the classroom, finishing the semester with more than half the student-athletes achieving over a 3.0 GPA. Our men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball teams all won championships, along with earning spots in the NAIA National Tournaments. The Athletic Department continued to make a difference in the Shreveport-Bossier community by completing thousands of community service hours throughout the area. These many successes were made possible through the hard work and dedication of the wider LSU Shreveport family, including significant support from the LSUS Foundation and the LSUS Alumni Association, both of which provide scholarships, networking and mentorship opportunities, special events, and much more for the enrichment of all Pilots.
LSUS continues to increase its impact in Northwest Louisiana by fostering partnerships with key strategic organizations such as Barksdale Air Force Base Global Strike Command, North Louisiana Economic Partnership, LSU Health Shreveport, and the City of Shreveport, creating new opportunities for our students and strengthening our region overall. In the past year, this included the launch of our new Center for Northwest Louisiana Regional Impact, which aims to connect our students and faculty with the business community in our region.
